Tech Tip: How many stage pump do I need?

A simple dry sump system needs 3 stages. One to feed the engine and two that will scavenge the pan and send the oil back to the tank. You can add extra stages to help pull air out of the engine. How many you need and in what sizes can be determined by speaking with our tech team and answering a few questions about your engine and type of racing.

Ray and his #53 team had a very successful 2010 campaign, as they racked up ten victories, twenty-seven Top Five finishes, and forty-three Top Ten performances. Their biggest win of the season came over the Memorial Day holiday weekend, as Ray won the $30,000 ‘Show-Me 100’ at the pristine Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, Missouri. The driver known as the “Tarheel Tiger” was also stellar on the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series circuit, as he claimed three series victories and finished fifth in the final point standings. The Billy Moyer Racing (BMR) team enjoyed a record-breaking season during 2010, as they amassed twenty-four victories in the sixty-two events that they entered. Along with those trips to victory lane, Billy also accumulated forty-two Top Five finishes and forty-nine Top Ten performances. In a season of so many highlights, Billy’s sweep of the ‘Dream 100’ and ‘World 100’ at Eldora, as well as his domination of the ‘Knoxville Late Model Nationals’ at Knoxville definitely sent shockwaves across the Dirt Late Model industry.

Lemspro Machine wins with the R4

We have received great praise on the new R4 pump and we are just getting started! Here is an email we recently received from Dave Lems of Lemspro Machine in Sturgis, SD:
“I wanted to take a minute and let you know how the R4 pump worked, we installed the pump on a ASCS 360 engine, the engine was absolutely flawless all year, the race team raced it thirty eight nights before installing a fresh engine and when we disassembled the engine that had your pump on it we were amazed, the inside of the engine looked good as new, the bearings, cam, lifters and valve springs were as good after thirty eight races as when they were new. You have my approval on this pump, you hit a home run, good job.

P.S. The race team won Seven features and 16 heat races and took home the Black Hills Speedway championship and set 10th fast time at Knoxville 360 Nationals out of 110 cars.“

We would like to extend congrats to Billy Moyer, Team Peterson member, on winning the Dream at Eldora Speedway. He chalked up one more win with our evolutionary R4 oil pump and it just keeps getting better.

Tech Tip #1 – How tight do I make my drive belt?

Unlike v-belts or serpentine style belts, toothed belts like HTD and Gilmer do not need to be overly tight. The teeth on the belt are doing the work instead of friction. A good rule of thumb is that you should be able to turn the belt 90º and see the teeth on the belt in the center of the belt between pulleys. Do not be alarmed if it appears that belt seems to be bouncing or flapping while the engine is running. If you over tighten these style belts they can walk off the pulley or cause premature wear to your pulleys.
